1UP’s Outdoor Prep Camp Was a HIT!
From April 3-4, 1UP hosted our Outdoor Prep Camp at the Shane Homes Soccer Centre! We trained over 200 players in the two days with incredible energy from both parents and players!
Over the two days, 1UP players improved on their vision and awareness, speed of play, aerial control, 1v1 defending and attacking and finishing ahead of the outdoor soccer season.
Here’s what some of our 1UP coaches had to say about the camp overall and how the players improved:
Alec Wells:
“The camp was another hit!” Wells said.
“Even though it was Easter weekend, the 1UP fam showed up in full force.”
“The players came ready to train from the first minute of the camp and had incredible energy for the two straight days.”

This Week in Training
Isolated 1v1s!
This week’s objective:
Players will gain the ability to beat an isolated defender by both on the dribble and a double pass with a teammate.
Coaching Points:
Commit defender
Analyze space between defender and ball
Analyze space behind defender
Decision: Dribble or pass (try to add disguise)
Change of pace after ball beats defender ball

1UP Sport Science and Mental Performance
A massive shoutout to Orka Fitness and Jordan Rao for providing an extra layer of detail for our outdoor prep camp!
Both days, Jayse Easton from Orka Performance was present at the camp running a sport science station, providing our players with an option to improve their fitness and endurance.
Also, sport psychologist Jordan Rao offered two online zoom sessions after each day of the camp to our players to improve the mental side of their game.
1UP Coaches Start CPL Season!
This past weekend, THREE 1UP coaches and one former academy player were involved in the first match of the Canadian Premier League season between Cavalry FC and Pacific FC in Victoria, B.C.
1UP coach Eryk Kobza played a full 90 minutes, former 1UP coach Max Piepgrass came on a sub in the 79th minute, and coach Niko Myroniuk was an unused sub in the 2-1 Cavalry win on Sunday afternoon. Also in action was former 1UP academy player Christian Greco-Taylor who came on as a sub for Pacific FC.
